Denise Walker, LPC
I take a holistic approach to therapy because healing doesn’t happen in just the mind. It happens when we tend to the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and when we slow down enough to understand what your nervous system has been carrying for a long time.
My work is grounded in evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, ACT, somatic, and IFS-informed approaches, and is always tailored to what fits you, not a one-size-fits-all model. I am continuously pursuing advanced training in somatic parts work to further support clients in reconnecting with their bodies, emotions, and internal sense of safety—especially when anxiety, burnout, or people-pleasing have become the norm.
I come from a Latino background and grew up along the Texas–Mexico border, which shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and resilience early on. I know what it’s like to feel deep pride in your culture, family, and community—to hold love for more than one world—while also feeling tension, grief, or disappointment around unspoken expectations, generational patterns, or the pressure to be “good enough.”
Because of this, I’m especially attuned to the experiences of immigrant and first-generation individuals, but I welcome clients from all backgrounds who feel overwhelmed, responsible for others, or disconnected from their own needs. My goal is to create a warm, collaborative, and emotionally safe space where we can explore your experiences with curiosity—not judgment. As a woman and therapist informed by feminist theory, I focus on empowerment and helping you understand how culture, identity, and societal expectations shape your life.

My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and rooted in holistic wellness. I look at the whole picture—mind, body, and lived experiences—while moving at a pace that feels safe and collaborative. Therapy with me is about building self-trust, insight, and tools you can use outside of our sessions.

Clients often describe sessions as supportive, grounding, and honest—with room for both depth and lightness. I work collaboratively, offering gentle honesty while honoring your pace, your culture, and your whole self—mind, body, and spirit.
As Carl Jung wrote, “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul.” Training guides our work, but genuine connection is what creates lasting change. In our first session, we’ll talk about your goals and what feels most important to start with, and we’ll adjust together as we go.

I’m not a blank-slate therapist. I’m a human first—mostly grounded and self-aware, and committed to doing my own ongoing work! I’m genuinely engaged, curious, and invested in understanding you—your story, culture, patterns, and the ways you learned to cope.
I’ll meet you with compassion, challenge you when it’s helpful, and check in regularly about the pace and direction of our work. I offer tools you can actually use outside of session, not just insight that stays in the room.
Therapy with me is honest, collaborative, and centered on helping you feel more like yourself—not who you think you “should” be. The goal is for you to take what’s helpful and leave the rest. I tend to work best with clients who are willing to reflect between sessions and are ready to go deeper.
